This page covers the money side of a Larkstead order: which payment methods work at checkout, when the charge happens, how prices are set and how your card details are protected.
Ways to Pay
Checkout runs on Shopify Payments and PayPal, which between them accept:
- Cards: Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, Diners Club (credit and debit)
- Wallets: Apple Pay, Google Pay, Shop Pay
- PayPal: balance or any card linked to your PayPal account
When the Charge Happens
- The full amount is charged when the order is placed.
- Legally, placing an order is an offer to buy; the contract is formed when we send the dispatch confirmation (see the Terms of Service).
- Your bank may show a temporary authorisation hold during checkout. If the order does not complete, or is cancelled, the bank releases that hold, usually inside 3–5 working days.
Prices, VAT & Currency
- All prices are in GBP (£) and include UK VAT where applicable. There are no surprise charges at the door for UK deliveries.
- If your card is denominated in another currency, the conversion is done by your bank at its own rate; any foreign-transaction fee is theirs, not ours.
- Prices can change over time, but never on an order you have already placed and had confirmed.
How Your Details Are Protected
- Encryption: every checkout session runs over SSL/TLS (the padlock in your browser).
- No card storage: card data goes directly to Shopify Payments or PayPal, both PCI DSS compliant. Larkstead never sees or stores a full card number.
- 3D Secure: where your bank requires it, payments are verified through Visa Secure, Mastercard Identity Check or equivalent.
Verification & Declines
- High-value orders (pergolas, pool tables and the like) occasionally trigger an extra verification step before dispatch; we may contact you to confirm a detail. It protects you as much as us.
- Declined? Check the card number, billing address and available balance, or try another method; persistent declines are almost always resolved by a call to your bank.
- We reserve the right to refuse or cancel an order in cases of suspected fraud, pricing error or stock failure; any cancellation by us is refunded in full immediately.
Methods We Don't Take
No cash on delivery, cheques, direct bank transfers or gift cards, and no instalment plans beyond any that appear natively at checkout.
Pricing Mistakes
If we spot a genuine pricing error on something you have ordered, we pause the order before dispatch and offer you the choice: proceed at the correct price, or cancel with a full and immediate refund. Details are in the Terms of Service.
